In 1833, our namesake, Frederic Ozanam, was a law student at the Sorbonne in Paris. He was outspoken with a passion for social justice and helping the poor. That passion led to the formation of the Conference of Charity (later called the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul), an organization that uplifted the poor living in the slums of Paris.
Frederic Ozanam spent his entire adult life helping the poor. His strong beliefs that everyone deserves a helping hand and the ability to improve their own circumstances is the very foundation of Ozanam Family Shelter’s mission today.
